Attics and Basements, 2002
Attics and basements are often places where people both literally and figuratively hide parts of themselves. Away from the glare of the main parts of a home, what first may appear as piles of junk are more often revealed to be layers of memories, histories, secrets, and shed skins. I have always loved exploring these dark spaces, rooting through forgotten memorabilia and treasures lit by a single exposed bulb, or by a soft ray of light shooting through a tiny window. Through this photo series I sought to weave my own narrative out of others’ shelved objects and hidden places.
